TYPES OF BREAST IMPLANTS:
SALINE vs. SILICONE

Breast implants differ in size, shape, and material. Both silicone and saline-filled implants have unique characteristics.

Silicone

Silicone is gelatinous and thick, better resembling the appearance and feel of breast tissue compared to saline.

A minimum age of 22 is required for silicone implants due to FDA regulations.

Saline

Saline is saltwater, and is thinner and less gummy than silicone, resulting in a slightly firmer feel with more potential to wrinkle.

Recovery and Results

The procedure typically takes one to two hours and is performed under general anesthesia. During the procedure, we will make an incision in the breast crease, around the areola, or in the armpit, depending on the type of implant and your desired outcome. The implant will then be placed either behind the breast tissue or under the chest muscle, depending on your anatomy and the type of implant used. Once the implant is in place, we will close the incision with sutures or surgical tape. After the procedure, you will be monitored in a recovery area before being discharged home with a family member or friend.

You will need to wear a special surgical bra for a few weeks to help support your breasts as they heal. While swelling or soreness may last for a few days to a week, you may be able to return to work within a few days, depending on your activity requirements. You will need to avoid strenuous physical exertion and heavy lifting for at least the first few weeks after your surgery.

WHAT TO EXPECT AS YOUR BREAST IMPLANTS AGE
